Below some suggestions of external organisations to do your research internship or master thesis. There is a broad range of companies, so have a good think about the topic, the kind of research, and the kind of organisation that appeals to you.

Searching the archive of master theses for company names can provide up concrete examples of past thesis projects there. Many students end up working at the organisation where they did their thesis, so looking them up on LinkedIn can be a way to find someone to contact at a company.

If someone from an external organisation asks you to come up with a topic, that is not a good sign. When doing a project at an external organisation it is best if they come up with some issue to look into. After all, you want to look at a topic where they have expertise and/or at a problem where they are keen to find a solution for. If organisations are serious about cybersecurity there should not a shortage of potential topics: people working in the fast moving world of IT should have plenty of open questions that they'd like to have answers to, or issues that they would like to know more about but where they never have the time to look into themselves, and such questions and issues can be great thesis or internship topics.

For non-Dutch speakers: the Dutch word for internship is 'stage' so adding that as a keyword when googling may help you to locate corporate web pages advertising internship and thesis possibilities.

• Companies specialising in cyber security that do security evaluations, pen-testing, Red/Blue Teaming or offer SOC-services: Secura, Hunt & Hackett, Sector7 at CompuTest, Riscure, Brightsight, Fox-IT, Radically Open Security, Northwave, Qbit, Red Team Security (in Arnhem), KPN Red Team. Asking for tips from fellow students in the RU-CTF Discord can be useful if you are interested in practical side of security.
• Cyber security divisions of more general consultancy firms, such as KPMG, Deloitte, PWC, Accenture, and Ernst & Young.
• Banks and other companies in the financial sector, e.g. Rabobank, ABN AMRO, ING, SNS Bank, CCV, and UL Transaction Security
• Firms that produce security technologies, such as Compumatica, Irdeto, and NXP or Bosch Security.
• Manufacturers of products that contain IT and hence have security risk, e.g. Philips, Omron in Den Bosch, Signify, Bosch Rexroth.
• Software houses such as InfoSupport (see also here), Capgemini, or Centric.
• Public utility companies, such as Alliander in Arnhem.
• Research institutes such as TNO, SIDN labs in Arnhem (on internet security for .nl), SURF (the ISP for Dutch universities that also develops applications such as EduRoam and EduVPN), ENCS in the Hague (on security of critical infrastructure, esp. electricity grid), and Netherlands Forensics Institute (NFI).
• Organisations in the public sector, such as the
